Paper mills fabricate data and sell authorship slots, threatening the integrity of the scholarly record on an industrial scale.
We look for warning signs such as templated text, implausible data, tortured phrases, and unusual authorship or affiliation patterns.
Manuscripts linked to paper mills are rejected or retracted, and affected institutions are informed in line with COPE guidance.
